Villa Moonlight

Standing proud on the edge of a tree-lined gorge, integrated into the natural contours of the hill, Moonlight Villa shines as both a modern family holiday home and a glamorous wedding venue. This four-bedroom property is situated just a few minutes’ walk from one of Bali’s most famous surf beaches on the extreme south-western tip of the Bukit Peninsula. From its rooftop stargazing terrace to its 15-metre swimming pool, Villa Moonlight is cleverly designed to maximize the magnificent sea views and invite the outdoors inside, while a full team of staff are on hand to look after every guest’s need.

The views from almost every room in the villa will leave you speechless. Built over three levels and perched on the edge of a verdant valley, with the Indian Ocean stretching out to one side and the forested hills of the dramatically scenic Bukit Peninsula to the other, Moonlight Villa cannot fail to impress.

A comfortably furnished rooftop terrace with a panorama that takes in Bali’s distant volcanic peaks, and a bright airy media room equipped with large TV and Sony sound system, preside over the villa’s top floor. Below, folding glass doors and windows surround the living and dining room, creating a seemingly infinite space. Soft grass, soothing ponds – even a shallow pool with teak garden furniture placed at its centre to keep toes cool while sunbathing or star-gazing – bring the outdoors in. Also on this open-plan floor is a modern kitchen with top-range appliances and a breakfast bar with a view. But it’s at ground level that guests are likely to spend the lion’s share of their time. An elbow-shaped, indoor—outdoor swimming pool with shallow kids area, whirlpool jets, sundeck and loungers extends into the garden from a poolside lounge equipped with a bar and a huge cushioned daybed to provide shady relaxation.

Moonlight Villa’s four luxurious bedrooms are situated on varying levels, affording extra privacy and the best views from their private terraces. The bedrooms at Moonlight Villa are all spacious and comfortable, each with a king-size bed (one convertible from twin beds), couches, TVs, jacuzzi tubs, terraces or balcony sitting areas, and ensuite bathrooms. The master, at ground level, offers the most privacy. It is the largest of the four with a its own sitting area, marble floors and outdoor shower. On one side of the bedroom, water silently cascades down a wall from an ornamental pond above. Bedroom two is situated above the master, though slightly smaller in size. Bedrooms three and four are located off to the side of the main building. They are almost mirror images of each other except the downstairs suite has an outdoor shower and garden views, while upstairs has sea views from its terrace.

Folding glass doors on three sides of Moonlight Villa’s mid-level living and dining area create a sense of oneness with the outdoors and the illusion of tremendous space. Soft couches and a coffee table form a sitting area, a dining table lies at the room’s centre and a modern and well-fitted Western kitchen occupies the far end of this bright space, complete with a window-side breakfast bar, and central prep island. Cooled three ways by ceiling fans, natural breezes and air conditioning, this floor also boasts a unique feature:a shallow pond just outside faces the ocean with two deck chairs at its centre, inviting guests to soothe their weary feet in its cool waters.

On the top floor of the villa, a second lounge/media room is furnished with comfortable couches and easy chairs and comes equipped with a 42-inch satellite-channel TV, Nintendo Wii and surround-sound entertainment. Again, lots of windows create a cool and breezy environment with great views over the ocean and surrounding landscape. Beyond the media room is a large stone terrace with all-weather couches and cushion – made for sunset cocktails and for watching the unveiling of the night sky.

Down at ground level, and accessed via two staircases, one on eitherside of the living and dining room, the villa’s 15 x 3-metre, elbow-shaped swimming pool is part outdoors and part under cover. At the garden end is a paved terrace furnished with sunloungers and umbrellas, while by the pool lounge is a shallow area fitted with therapeutic whirlpool jets – ideal for young children and shade-seekers.

The relaxed poolside lounge features a bar, TV, sound system, couches and a large cushioned daybed, which can double as a massage area. Alongside the pool is a perfectly manicured lawn overlooking the forested valley and creating an ideal setting for small events or weddings for up to 30 people.
